Hi, I’m L – and this is Odie, our four-legged garden guardian. We live in Brunswick, Melbourne, where a few pots of herbs turned into something much more: a passion for growing our own food, even in a small urban space.
Like many urban dwellers, I didn’t grow up with a backyard orchard or veggie patch. But over time, I discovered the quiet joy and surprising fulfilment of growing my own herbs, greens, and vegetables – right outside the backdoor.
What started as a few pots of basil and mint has grown into a thriving little edible garden that (partially) sustains our household with fresh produce and a deeper connection to the seasons, the soil, and sustainability.
I created this site to share what I’ve learned (and continue to learn) about growing food in small spaces. Whether you’ve got a balcony, courtyard, or just a sunny windowsill, I believe anyone in Australia can create their own urban patch – and reap the rewards of homegrown food.
On this blog, you’ll find:
- Practical (and wallet friendly!) tips for small-space edible gardening
- Herb and veggie growing guides tailored to Australian conditions
- Mistakes I’ve made, products I’ve loved, and what’s actually worked in real life
You’ll often spot Odie front and centre – sniffing out new shoots or “helping” plant in some seedlings – but most likely napping away peacefully on our small patch of grass.
Whether you’re just getting started or looking to grow more of your own food in the city, I hope this site helps you feel more confident (and inspired!) to get your hands dirty.
Thanks for stopping by.
